In 1950 Robert
E. Nelson founded what evolved into the lawfirm of Nelson &
Mudd. The partners and associate lawyers were all Certified Public
Accountants as well as lawyers, and the firm's primary emphasis
was--and the practice of Brian R. Mudd, Michael D. Willis. and Eric
W. Hansen remains--on tax, probate, and estate planning matters.
Schmeling,
Muraski & Wheeler was founded in 1972. That firm was oriented
toward the general practice of law, with the partners specializing
in areas of the law in which they had particular expertise and interest.
That remains the case for Todd J. Schmeling, John A. Muraski, Charles
H. Wheeler, Sharren B. Rose, and Thomas W. Roznowski.
The 1981 merger
between Nelson & Mudd and Schmeling, Muraski & Wheeler resulted
from the partners' perception that neither of the existing lawfirms
was fully equipped to handle the widest range of their respective
clients' legal problems in the developing age of specialization
in the practice of law. Two decades of experience since the merger
has proven beyond doubt the validity of that perception.
